Shortfin Mako ( Isurus oxyrinchus)

The shortfin mako is found in tropical and temperate waters and has a wide distribution throughout the world's oceans. The mako exhibits the same conical body shape as other lamnids such as the great white and porbeagle. The average adult mako is 10 feet (3.2 meters) and weighs 135-300 pounds (60-135 kg). The largest ever caught was 1115 pounds (505.76 kg). The shortfin mako was made famous in Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. They are currently listed as "near threatened".
